July 25, 1963:
The United States, the Soviet Union and Great Britain initialed a treaty in Moscow prohibiting the testing of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere, in space, or underwater.

July 28, 1965:
President Lyndon Johnson announced he was increasing the number of American troops in South Vietnam to 175,000 by year's end.

May 4, 1970:
Ohio National Guardsmen opened fire on anti-war protesters at Kent State University, killing four students and wounding nine others.

February 5, 1973:
Services were held at Arlington National Cemetery for Army Lt. Col. William B. Nolde, the last American combat casualty before the Vietnam cease-fire.

November 13, 1982:
